Vinashin to take over Chan May Port

...made a decision to transfer ownership of the Chan May Port from the Thua Thien-Hue People’s Committee to Vinashin.

Ownership of the Chan May Port, currently part of the Chan May-Lang Co Economic Zone in Thua Thien-Hue Province, would be assumed by the Vinashin Group in early 2008, provincial authorities confirmed yesterday.

The total asset of the port, including offices and land, were appraised at VND284.3 billion (US$18 million) as of December 31, 2006.

Gov’t gets serious about illegal child labour

... ordered the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to co-operate with the Ministry of Public Security and provincial and municipal People’s Committees to investigate and deal harshly with cases of illegal use of child labour.

The Fatherland Front, Women’s Union and other organisations were urged to closely co-operate with ministries, sectors and local authorities to detect child exploitation and violence against children.

The Prime Minister’s instruction follows a recent, highly-publicised case of ill-treatment to a girl employed in Ha Noi’s Thanh Xuan District.

Disaster relief follows in floods’ wake

... decided to provide over VND200 billion (US$12.8 million) to central provinces to overcome flood damage.

The Prime Minister has also asked the Ministry of Finance to release 8,200 tonnes of rice from the national food reserves as relief to flood-struck areas. Between October 14 and November 13, central provinces from Quang Binh to Ninh Thuan were hit by waves of heavy rains and flooding. The death toll climbed to 155, with property losses estimated at over VND4.4 trillion ($275 million).
