Vietnam and Japan work for strategic partnership

Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh paid a courtesy visit to Japanese Emperor Akihito just after a grand welcoming ceremony hosted by Prime Minister Taro Aso in Tokyo on April 20.

The Vietnamese Party leader said he was pleased to meet the Japanese Emperor again while cherry blossoms were in pervasive bloom throughout Japan, which was celebrating two national important events, including the 50th wedding anniversary of the Japanese Emperor and Empress and the 20th anniversary of the Japanese Emperor’s enthronement.

Vietnam attaches importance to developing the friendship and multi-faceted co-operation with Japan, Party leader Manh said, adding that Vietnam is determined together with Japan to bolster the strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia.

He highly valued the Vietnam visit by Japanese Prince Naruhito in February this year, saying that it helped strengthen mutual understanding, friendship and mutually beneficial co-operation between the two countries.

Manh also thanked the Japanese Royal, Government and people for their assistance to Vietnam in recent time and expressed wish that the Japanese Emperor’s scientific and technological co-operation fund would further extend assistance to the country.

Emperor Akihito warmly welcomed the Vietnamese Party leader, affirming that the latter’s visit would help boost the currently-developing bilateral ties.

He praised Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements in recent time, especially its maintenance of an economic growth rate of 3.1% in the first quarter of this year despite the on-going financial crisis. (VNA)
