HCMC students commute to school in old Volkswagens

Students of District 10’s Vo Truong Toan primary school commute to school in old Volkswagens with manufacturing date going back to the 70s.

Some parents who cannot take their kids to school and have to rely on these ‘school buses’ worry if their kids are safe on the way between home and school.

These cars were imported from Germany before 1975 and used as ambulances. Some parts of the cars have been changed, and they have been repainted and used as school buses for 8 years.

“They are indeed old. But they operate at low costs and still warrant safety within short driving distances in the city”, said a representative from Vo Truong Toan school.
