Floods still threaten central provinces

Rain-triggered floods since late last month have killed 25 people in the south-central provinces, according to the Central Committee for Flood Prevention and Control.

Flood also submerged 23,818 houses, with total losses being estimated at VND1.75 trillion.

The Central Hydrometeorology Forecast Center said moderate to heavy rains have occurred since Sunday in central provinces from Quang Ngai to Phu Yen.

In Binh Dinh Province, heavy rain reappeared in the last few days, leaving many streets deeply flooded. The province has reported five deaths and one missing in flooding since early this month.

In Phu Yen Province, hundreds of households were evacuated Monday evening after floods inundated many houses in Tay Hoa and Phu Hoa districts.

Thousands of people in Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa, and Quang Ngai provinces are still isolated because of road collapses caused by the floods, and are facing a critical shortage of food and other basic necessities, Vietnam News reported.
