Deputy PM welcomes US giants
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung received a delegation from the US-ASEAN Business Council led by its President Matthew Daley in Hanoi on May 15.
The Deputy PM welcomed the delegation’s visit to Vietnam as the global economy is facing a lot of difficulties and challenges, adding that it shows many US businesses are still interested in the opportunities for investment and co-operation that Vietnam offers.
Deputy PM Hung briefed them on Vietnam’s socio-economic development, and said he hoped that economic and trade relations between Vietnam and the US would expand further.
He appreciated the amount of investment that US businesses have poured into Vietnam, saying that there were still many big opportunities and potentials for co-operation waiting for them.
Daley said he was impressed by the figure of US$6 billion in FDI that Vietnam had attracted during the first four months of this year, which includes US$3.8 billion from the US.
He said he expected the US to become the biggest investor in Vietnam in the near future.
According to Daley, his visit is mainly to study the Vietnamese Government’s policies on foreign investors as well as its long-term economic development strategy.
He also said US businesses were interested in investing in agriculture, infrastructure, energy, transport, aviation, finance and banking, health care, human resources, construction materials, mining, and telecommunications.
The delegation includes 30 senior officials from 16 corporate giants such as Abbot Laboratories, AES, AIG, Caterpillar, Chevron, Citi Bank, ExxonMobil, Ford and General Electric.
The US-ASEAN Business Council has more than 100 members; most of them are in the list of top 100 US businesses selected by the international magazine Fortune. (VNA)
