Closing sessions saw rebound of indexes and gold prices
Nhan Dan Online – Indexes gained in both bourses on the closing sessions this week on July 31.
Specifically, VN-Index gained 14.85 points (equivalent to 3.29%) to close a trading week at 466.76 points on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE). On the Hanoi bourse, HNX-Index increased by 5 points (3.36%) to stand at 153.91 points.
This week (July 27-31) saw two increasing sessions and three declining sessions of VN-Index. Despite three decreasing sessions, two other sharply increasing sessions helped VN-Index have the second consecutive gaining week as it went up by 12.05 points (2.65%) to 466.76 points against the previous week. However, closing a week, HNX-Index dropped by 0.71 points (0.46%) to stand at 153.91 points.
Both indexes hit the highest levels in early this week as they exceeded the thresholds of 460 points (VN-Index) and 160 points (HNX-Index). Specifically, VN-Index reached 469.71 points and HNX-Index reached 161.05 points. Right after the gaining session, both indexes suffered three consecutive declining sessions along with the declining of market liquidity. Only on the closing session, two indexes recovered. However, at weekend HNX-Index slipped the threshold of 160 points.
During the week, foreign investors maintained net-buying. The volume and value for buying always surpassed the ones of selling except for one net-selling session on July 30 on Hanoi bourse.
* Domestic gold prices hold the threshold of VND 21 million a tael
Gold prices listed by Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) in Ho Chi Minh City this morning were VND 21.13 million a tael for buying and VND 21.19 million a tael for selling. Accordingly, buying and selling prices went up by VND 90,000 and VND 100,000 a tael against the previous prices.
On two days of late this week, the domestic gold price saw consecutive increasing and is standing at the threshold of over VND 21 million a tael. Gold price slipped the threshold of VND 21 million a tael on July 30 but it quickly recovered the next day.
In the world market, gold price is increasing sharply. The gold price in New York on the closing session this week fluctuated around US$954.5 an ounce, an increase of US$20 an ounce compared to the previous day’s figure.
