There aretwo kinds of house in town: Vietnamese town house and villa.
Vietnamese townhouse is narrow and high (4m x 20m and three, four
levels). Villa is wider,more expensive and usually has two to maximum
three levels.
Areas, where most of foreigners are living in Hochiminh city:
1. An Phu, district 2, Hochiminh city, vietnam: 15 - 20 minutes far fromcenter of town.
More than 500 houses in this area. Size of the property is from 200
sq.m to1,500 sq.m. Most of the houses have swimming pool and garden.
There are50-70% expatriates with their family living and studing in
this area. Becauseof two famous schools are located in this area:
The British school and International school.
Here are some compounds in An Phu, district 2 and district 9, Hochiminhcity, Vietnam:
-APSC or BP compound,
has about 200houses, pools, gym, tennis court,generator, 24hour
security, but always fully occupied, etc, rental pricelowest from
2,500US$/month.
-Thao Dien compound:
Not very far from the BP compound and the supermarket(500meter). This
compound has about 170-200houses, owned by state company,private
companies and private persons. There are many small complexes in
thiscompound. Facilities: pools, tennis court, 24hour security, quiet,
greeny,generator, etc, ...
-Greenfield compound:
in the other side of highway, 1-2km fromBritish schools, about
30houses, good quality, built in 3-5years ago, pool,gym, 24hour
security, generator, unfurnished and furnished, etc, ...
-Lakeview villas compound:
in the other side of highway, 1-2km fromBritish schools, about
30houses, good quality, built in 3-5years ago, pool,gym, 24hour
security, generator, unfurnished and furnished, etc, ...
-Phutuong Compound:
It is close to An Phu supermarket and BritishInternational school, in
quiet and secure area, river view, a small compoundwith 13houses,
24hours security, back-up generator and maintenance staff.
-Nhat Huy compound:
Close to International school. There are 5houses in this compound and
there is one just available, 4bedrooms andbathrooms, 3 levels, common
pool, garden, in the compound, modern style,furnished, wooden floor.
2. Center of town, Hochiminh city, Vietnam:
Most of the houses are town houses with 4meter wide and 15-20meter long,2-4levels. Some of them are colonial French style,
one
levels to three levels, no pool, small garden,yard, two bedrooms to
five bedrooms, alley or in the main road. It takes 5-15 minutes to
centre. Marble floor or wooden floor or terracotta floor. Serviced
apartments are priorty option for expats who choose to stay incenter of
town. It is secure, convenient and can be rented for short period.
3. By the TSN airport, Tan Binh district: Most of them are Vietnamese
townhouses. It takes about 20-30minutes to downtown and 30-45minutes
toInternational and British schools.
4.Saigon south-Phu My Hung,
district 7: New residential area, with Americanschool, Korean, Japanese
and Taiwanese schools are also located, houses andapartments, etc, ...

- Water: 8,000VND/ m3.
- Electricity: 2,000VND/ Kw.

Maid is about USD100 to USD150/ month (just cleaning, helping for
buyingfood, and working in daytime). If maid can cook, they will ask
for more, about USD150-200/ month.
- Security guard is about USD100-150/ month/ guard.
- Cable TV and satellite are installed by the house owner, usually
(butmonthly rental fee will be paid by tenant). Monthly fee is from
USD15 to USD25 according to the channels tenant wants to have (with
basicinternational channels, such as: MTV, Star Sport, Discovery,
Cartoon Network,Star world, Phoenix-Chinese, CNN, BBC, TV5-French, Star
Movies, HBO, ESPN, V,TVB, ... ).
- Equipment: Most of the houses have basic electrical appliances,
such asrefrigerator, gas stove with oven and washing machine. Other
furniture andequipment should be supplied by tenant.
