Township nature and functions:
Thu Thiem new township is Ho Chi Minh City?s new and modern center of
trade, finance, service, tourism, trade fair & exhibition, administrative,
culture, greeneries and residence. It links and grows in harmony with
the existing downtown area via the symmetrical axis of the Sai Gon river
landscape. Together with the existing downtown area, it will complete
the development of the city?s center.
Location: on Thu Thiem peninsular, opposite District 1 on the other side
of Sai Gon River, encompassing the wards of An Khanh, Thu Thiem, An Loi Dong,
part of ward Binh An and Binh Khanh in District 2.
Size: Total area: 930 ha, the new township: 770 ha, the resettlement
area: 160 ha
Population: the new township: 200,000; the resettlement area: 45,000
